Are you at home and want to get creative? Here are some of our favourites... Click on the image below to create with Blob Opera: Here is a wonderful playground of creativity for music! Click on the image below to compose your own music! What can you make? Share with your family!
One of my favourite ways to engage students in music learning is through simply being curious. "Project Based Learning" is a wonderful way to achieve this. Each grade is currently involved in a learning project, to discover the sound, and the music in the world around them... whether learning about how to make music with the force of gravity, discover how to create music and sounds of water, the habitat of the polar bear, or learn how to play a new instrument and create a band to perform for others, it's all very exciting! Click HERE to learn more about "Project Based Learning".
Students, here is how you can share what you are doing with your families! Click on the picture below, and then click on your grade for the project we are working on right now in music! You are thoughtful musicians and creative composers, so you should share! You can also check out the Folkdance section for grades 1-4, and get in some dance moves, because Folkdance in the Park is coming up on May 27th (Rain Date May 31st): It's time for Festival du Voyageur again! Here is an amazing video from Travel Manitoba that shares the beautiful area where the Festival takes place: Here are some fun Festival activities... First, we have la gigue de la Rivière Rouge. The teacher is sharing the dance for a different reason for another celebration, but it is still a very well-known dance seen often at FdV: How to make and play your own spoons! Making your own instruments: Feel free to find other activities and songs we used for Festival du Voyageur last year at this link: engbrecht.weebly.com/music-online/archives/01-2021
We were learning movements and a drum pattern for this song recently. Here is the video so you can sing it at home! The drumming and movement we learned was from the talented music teacher and musician, Garth Prince, who is a Namibian-Canadian children's performer! Many music teachers had the honour of learning from him at the Tempo Music Conference in the fall of 2021. Share the drum pattern and movement with your family! Such a fun song! If you are missing doing some music today (I have students come up to me and ask when their next music class is all the time) here is some drumming, also with Garth Prince: Folklorama has these amazing virtual performances on their YouTube page! Check this one out of TiBert, who often performs at Festival du Voyageur, and has even performed at our school in the past! Woohoo! It's Friday! Here are the activities for today! Have fun, and ....
SEE YOU ON MONDAY!! I'm getting out the tubanos (the colorful drums)! Hey, friends! Hope you enjoyed the activities yesterday! Here are the activities for Tuesday! Have fun!
